Chelsea are in talks to sign 27-year-old defender, Stefan Savic from Atletico Madrid. The West London outfit want another central defender as there is increasing possibility that Brazilian international, David Luiz could be set for a move to Napoli. Sky Italy report that The Blues want the former Manchester City player to add depth to the backline, and it seems that Savic is open to the possibility of returning to the Premier League.
Despite the managerial uncertainty at Stamford Bridge, the power brokers at the club are still pushing ahead for deals that could improve the fortunes of the team that made a mess of their title defence. Savic has grown into a very good defender under the tutelage of Diego Simeone at the Wanda Metropolitano and will command a fairly good price. Juventus are also keen on signing him, though Chelsea are seen as favorites.
The Montenegrin played a solitary season in the Premier League with Manchester City back in 2011/12, but looked out of his depths with the physicality and intensity of the division. Savic, since that time has become one of the most solid defenders in the whole of Europe, and has formed a good central defensive partnership with the legendary Diego Godin. Savic is a player known for his uncompromising style of play, aerial ability and ability to read the game astutely.
He joined Los Rojiblancos in the summer of 2015 from Fiorentina and has since made over 100 appearances for the Europa League champions.
