R. Kelly is facing a sexual assault lawsuit from a woman who claims he held her against her will and mentally, verbally, and sexually abused her.
According to TMZ, Faith Rodgers said she met the R&B superstar in March 2017 following a performance in San Antonio, when she was 19. He reportedly flew her to New York a couple months later to attend his concert.
After the show, she claims Kelly “bombarded” her hotel room and engaged in “abusive sex” including oral and vaginal intercourse. According to documents, Kelly dated Rodgers for about a year and allegedly gave her herpes. She also accuses him of locking her in rooms, studios, and cars to punish her for failing to fulfill his sexual desires.
In the suit, Faith adds that Kelly had a female assistant watch her to make sure she didn’t flee.
The controversial singer has come under fire recently for more allegations of underage sex and physical abuse, including keeping a 14-year-old girl as a sex “pet.” In light of this, the Time’s Up’s Women of Color coalition has launched a #MuteRKelly boycott and Spotify banned him from their playlists.
For his part, Kelly continues to deny the allegations. “Mr. Kelly for 30 years has sung songs about his love and passion for women,” said his rep. “He is innocent of the false and hurtful accusations in the ongoing smear campaign against him, waged by enemies seeking a payoff. He never has been convicted of a crime, nor does he have any pending criminal charges against him.”
