Not to long ago, MTN and Airtel introduced their customer care service to WhatsApp, and now few Nigerian banks have done the same. With the advent of internet banking, some banks, such as UBA, GTBank and First Bank of Nigeria are now trying to take full advantage of WhatsApp.

Untitled These banks have all announced the introduction of WhatsApp messaging on their digital banking to help serve as a self-service platform. This feature will allow customers, carry out some basic banking features, such as checking account balances, opening an account and some other banking services.

UBA, said in a statement, that, its chat banker, Leo, was fully launched in a pilot mode on WhatsApp and will be fully available to customers by September 1, 2018. GTBank, also said that, it would leverage on the WhatsApp Business Solution to offer Nigerians an additional channel to connect with it for enquiries, service requests and access to other basic banking services.

Untitled Furthermore, First Bank of Nigeria, said that, its WhatsApp chat banking will ensure effective services to the customers. It will enable customers to leverage the real-time messaging capabilities of the WhatsApp Business Solution to check their account balance.

This does not come as a surprise as WhatsApp, recently announced that it will start charging businesses on the WhatsApp Business platform, 0.5 cents to 9 cents per message. This is about N30 – N35 in Nigerian currency. This charges will only come when you send a message on your WhatsApp Business profile, so as to generate revenue.
